From 2017 through 2021, almost 50,000 children and youth accessed services from programs helping domestic violence victims in Georgia. These young survivors witnessed and experienced domestic violence in a variety of ways that impact their thoughts and feelings about themselves, relationships, and the world around them. Advocates that work directly with children, youth, and their caregivers are given the task to support, care, and educate, as well as facilitate activities, develop interventions, and create plans for safety. These advocates fulfill many responsibilities that are connected to children and youth feeling safer, more empowered, and less burdened by feelings of shame, blame, and guilt.
The Youngest Survivors: Advocacy for Child & Youth Witnesses of Domestic Violence training addresses the many aspects of service provision for child and youth advocacy in domestic violence program settings. In this 3-day online training, advocates will be provided with information, tools, knowledge, and strategies to use in direct practice with children, youth, and their caregivers, including:
Key Audience: Child and youth advocates currently working in Georgia domestic violence shelters or community-based domestic violence service programs. This interactive training is provided by GCADV staff utilizing lecture, small group activities, role-plays, audiovisuals, and discussion. The training is an excellent opportunity for new advocates to gain understanding of domestic violence advocacy for children and youth, or for experienced advocates looking for a “refresher” on working with children and youth.
Registration: Free and open to child and youth advocates of GCADV member programs and CJCC-certified domestic violence shelters.
Continuing Education Units: This training has been approved by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for continuing education hours for state-certified domestic violence programs.
Deadline for registration is: April 8, 2022
