Confidentiality is one of the foundations of advocacy for domestic violence survivors, and there is more to confidentiality than protecting a survivor’s identity or information. How do we as advocates balance advocating on behalf of survivors in our communities, in court systems, and in our own program spaces while still meeting the strict confidentiality requirements set forth by domestic violence funding sources as well as our ethical guidelines? This in-person training will address some of the more nuanced best practices in confidentiality as well as providing a basic overview. Topics included in the training are:
• Overview of the basics of confidentiality requirements
• Privacy and confidentiality – programs’ use of technology
• Best practices in testifying on behalf of survivors in court.
• Expert witness testimony
• Applied concepts – scenarios and group discussion.
