The GCADV Child and Youth Project and the University of Georgia Center for Family Research invite your team to participate in the Strong African American Families (SAAF) Program Facilitator Training.

After conducting 2 decades of research in African American communities, the Center for Family Research developed the SAAF program to address the unique strengths and stressors African American families experience with a culturally-relevant, evidence-based curriculum.

The SAAF Program Facilitator training is designed to train program staff, that work with young people and their caregivers, on best practices to support and encourage the well-being of African American families of children, aged 10-14.

Participants will be trained to facilitate a 7 session SAAF program for youth and their non-abusive caregivers within your organization. This training will offer participants the opportunity to:

  • Build on the strengths of African American families
  • Support young people during the transition from early adolescence to the teen years
  • Offer best practices for decreasing potentially dangerous and risky behaviors in young people

This training is free of charge and open to staff of GCADV member or state-certified domestic violence programs.

Participants will receive 3 full days of in-depth training by SAAF Master Trainers, which includes a detailed review, practice of session activities and an electronic version of the SAAF program curriculum.

A team of 3 to 5 staff members per domestic violence program are required to register to attend this training. Preferably one team member will be the executive director or program director, due to the finanical commitment of implementing this program in your community.

Please click here to read the SAAF brochure, FAQs and the agency readiness assessment for more information.

This training is supported by Subgrant No. C51-8-001 administered by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council and awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime.
