To receive a certificate of attendance, you must log in to the training session with the video/camera feature enabled. You will not be able to fully participate if you only tune in using the conference telephone line. GCADV can assist with audio/visual needs if necessary.  

  

This training is designed to provide new advocates and domestic violence program staff the basic principles of working with victims of domestic violence.  A variety of topics are addressed including:

• Dynamics of domestic violence

• Barriers faced by victims

• Cultural humility

• Lethality indicators

• Safety planning

• Crisis intervention and crisis line work

• Advocacy foundations such as empowerment, ethics and confidentiality

This interactive training is provided by GCADV staff utilizing lecture, small group activities, role-plays, audiovisuals, and exciting discussion. The training is an excellent opportunity for new advocates to gain a thorough understanding of domestic violence advocacy or for experienced advocates looking for a “refresher” on core knowledge and skills.

The training is an excellent opportunity for new advocates to gain a thorough understanding of domestic violence advocacy or for experienced advocates looking for a “refresher” on core knowledge and skills.

Hotel Stipend

HOTEL INFORMATION AND STIPENDS: GCADV has a limited number of hotel stipends available to offset overnight lodging costs to attend this training. The stipend recipient(s) must be a full-time or part-time staff member of a GCADV member organization or state-certified family violence shelter and travel more than 120 miles one-way (240 roundtrip) to attend the training. 

Apply Early: Stipends will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis to the staff members that meet the above travel distance requirements. You are encouraged to apply early since stipends are limited.  Contact Karla Russell, krussell@gcadv.org for a hotel stipend.

Approval Notification: Stipend approval confirmations will be emailed to recipients shortly after they are received and will specify the number of hotel rooms and nights approved.

Reservations: GCADV will make hotel reservations for stipend recipients and notify you of your confirmation number and reservation details. If you wish to reserve rooms in addition to your stipend, please contact GCADV for hotel information. NOTE: Hotel stipends are awarded on the condition that the registered person(s) attends the entire training. If stipend recipients do not attend the entire training, GCADV may invoice your program for the hotel costs.
