Change is a difficult process. Supporting survivors of intimate partner violence on thier journey toward safety and healing can be challenging for advocates and other helping professionals, because each survivor is in a different place in the change process. Following the model developed by Prochaska and DiClemente, this workshop will explore the ways in which victims of violence and trauma might move in (and out) of stages of readiness to change or to take steps toward healing. Through interactive discussions and key examples, the facilitator will offer several key strategies to support a client within each stage of change.
