This training is intended for member programs, allied service providers, and related partners.

 

As a foundational component of this support, API-GBV will deliver a four-part virtual webinar series designed specifically for advocates and coalition staff, each 90-minute session builds knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide effective training and technical assistance to member programs around interpretation and translation planning.

Speaker Information

Dr. Jose Juan Lara Jr. is a national trainer and nonprofit professional with more than twenty years of experience in domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy. He currently serves as the Systems & Advocacy Senior Program Manager at the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence, where he leads the Interpretation Technical Assistance Resource Center. In this role, he provides training, technical assistance, and planning support to programs nationwide on interpretation and translation, organizational practices, and victim-centered approaches. Tomiko Tamashiro Prado is the Healing Across Languages (HAL) Senior Project Coordinator at the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence (API-GBV). With over a decade of experience in language access and interpretation, Tomiko specializes in simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, legal translation, and interpreter training. Their work focuses on strengthening language access in victim services, ensuring proper interpretation practices, and centering survivor voices. Tomiko has extensive expertise in providing technical assistance, outreach, and training for service providers to enhance collaboration with interpreters. They are committed to fostering equitable access to services through culturally responsive and trauma-informed language access strategies. Tomiko holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish/English Interpretation and Translation (SETI) from Virginia Commonwealth University, with additional studies in International Studies and Hispanic and Latin American Languages.
