This session focuses on leadership and decision-making during an active disaster. Participants will examine how to activate emergency protocols, coordinate staff roles and communication, support survivors, make shelter-in-place or evacuation decisions, maintain service continuity, and respond to rapidly changing conditions with clarity, flexibility, and care.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
  • Describe key leadership responsibilities during disaster activation and response.
  • Apply trauma-informed decision-making principles when information is incomplete or conditions are changing.
  • Identify considerations for shelter-in-place, evacuation, relocation, and service continuity.
  • Coordinate staff communication, survivor support, partnerships, and financial accountability during crisis conditions.

Intended Audience

This series is designed for Georgia domestic violence program staff involved in organizational preparedness, operations, survivor services, or emergency decision-making. Programs are encouraged to identify a small disaster response team and, when possible, have those staff attend all three webinars. Teams may include leadership, shelter or program operations, survivor services, finance, communications, facilities, or other staff who may play a role during a disaster. Attending as a team can help programs begin clarifying responsibilities, identifying gaps, and strengthening their disaster response plans and systems.
