This training addresses various aspects of service provision for child and youth advocacy in domestic violence settings. In this one-day training, advocates will be provided with information, tools, knowledge and strategies to use in direct practice with children, youth and caregivers. Topics include:

  • Strengthening advocate self-care practice
  • Exploring the impact of witnessing domestic violence on child development
  • Reviewing strategies to building relationships with non-offending caregivers
  • Developing and creating child-centered safety plans
  • Highlighting awareness of cultural humility
  • Discussing ideas for faciliating activities and outings
  • Assessing access to community resources

This training is designed to help support advocates of children and youth currently working in Georgia domestic violence shelters or community-based domestic violence service programs. 

This training is pending approval by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council administering office for the STOP Formula Grant Program. Hotel Stipend

GCADV has a limited number of hotel stipends available to offset lodging costs to attend this training. The stipend recipient(s) must be a 1) full-time or part-time staff member of a GCADV member organization or state-certified family violence shelter and 2) travel more than 120 miles one-way (240 roundtrip) to attend the training.

Participants are encouraged to apply early, as stipends will be awarded on first come, first serve basis to the staff members that meet the above requirements. Stipend approval confirmations will be emailed to receipents shortly after they are received. 

GCADV will make reservations on behalf of attendees who have been awarded the stipend. Please do not contact the hotel directly to make a reservation - you will be provided with confirmation of your hotel reservation prior to the training.
