Jennifer Thomas, Director of Strategic Partnerships at CJCC, and Alexis Champion, Training Manager at GCADV,  will be holding a virtual book club where we will be reading and discussing a newly released book by Rachel Louise Snyder, “No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Will Kill Us”. “In “No Visible Bruises,” Snyder turns her attention to domestic violence, a story she calls “among the most difficult of subjects to report on” because it’s “vast and unwieldy, but it’s also utterly hidden.” Partly, of course, this is because of where it happens. “Our homes and families are supposed to be sacred territory,” Snyder writes. Furthermore, it violates our sense of how life is supposed to be. “Love is what makes domestic violence different from any other crime.”

This book is an important read for advocates working to ensure victim safety and offender accountability. Rachel has provided a good overview of current efforts in response to domestic violence across our country. We are interested to learn from you and discuss this book with you as we continue to seek solutions that support the ability for all Georgians to be safe in their homes.

The virtual book club will be held via Zoom in 3 separate sessions. We will discuss the book in three sections (approximately 100 pages each section), and we will provide discussion topics prior to the group convening. This Reading Group is open to all advocates, staff and administrators at domestic violence shelters and community-based programs in Georgia.
