This two day IN PERSON training is designed to expand the knowledge of experienced and new advocates who provide domestic violence services to survivors from the African-American/Black community. 

1st day 9:00am-4:00pm
2nd day 9:00am-4:00pm

Through this interactive, think outside the box training, participants will explore the topics below and strengthen their creative advocacy lens. Utilizing lecture, small group activities, audiovisuals, and exciting discussion, this workshop will provide participants with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore the unique intricacies of working with survivors from marginalized and underserved communities. 

Topics addressed will include:
• Shifting: The effects of historical trauma and IPV
• Barriers faced by survivors due to historical trauma
• Cultural Competency vs. Cultural Humility
• A collective evaluation of our advocacy
• Historical trauma and help seeking behaviors
• Creativity and the connection to Trauma Informed care (TIC) services

This training is an excellent opportunity for experienced and new advocates to gain a thorough understanding of the dynamics of serving this community. It will also provide a new perspective on delivering program services.

Hotel Stipend

HOTEL INFORMATION AND STIPENDS 

GCADV has a limited number of hotel stipends available to offset overnight lodging costs to attend this training. The stipend recipient(s) must be a full-time or part-time staff member of a GCADV member organization or state-certified family violence shelter and travel more than 120 miles one-way (240 roundtrip) to attend the training.  

Apply Early: Stipends will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis to the staff members that meet the above travel distance requirements. You are encouraged to apply early since stipends are limited. 

Approval Notification: Stipend approval confirmations will be emailed to recipients shortly after they are received and will specify the number of hotel rooms and nights approved. 

Reservations: GCADV will make hotel reservations for stipend recipients and notify you of your confirmation number and reservation details. If you wish to reserve rooms in addition to your stipend, please contact GCADV for hotel information. 

NOTE: Hotel stipends are awarded on the condition that the registered person(s) attends the entire training. If stipend recipients do not attend the entire training, GCADV may invoice your program for the hotel costs.
