Many different agencies intersect around survivors with legal needs, and legal advocates can play a significant role in helping the survivor to navigate these complex cases and situations.

This training will explore strategies for legal advocates to successfully engage with law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges on behalf of survivors. Focus areas will include:

  • Enforcement of TPOs: what to do when the respondent violates the order
  • Getting TPOs served, what can advocates do to help?
  • Advocacy best practices for the court room
  • How to build good working relationships with law enforcement, judges, prosecutors
  • Challenges around TPOs and firearms
