Course Description

This session introduces the foundational steps domestic violence programs can take before a disaster occurs. Participants will explore organizational risk, emergency policies, communication, supplies, facilities, financial readiness, partnerships, and staff preparedness, with an emphasis on building flexible systems that support survivor safety and service continuity.


Continuing Education Hours: 2

This training has been approved by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for 2 continuing education units (CEUs) for state-certified domestic violence programs.

 


Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify key organizational and community risks that may affect disaster response.
  • Describe core elements of disaster-ready policies, communication systems, staffing plans, and emergency resources.
  • Apply survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and confidentiality-focused principles to preparedness planning.
  • Identify tools and appendices within Ready to Respond that can support agency planning and training.

Indended Audience

This series is designed for Georgia domestic violence program staff involved in organizational preparedness, operations, survivor services, or emergency decision-making. Programs are encouraged to identify a small disaster response team. Teams may include leadership, shelter or program operations, survivor services, finance, communications, facilities, or other staff who may play a role during a disaster. All team members are encouraged to take all three parts of this training.
